Your Grandparents’ Music Is Cooler Than You Think

Kickin’ It Old School is Go Fish’s 80s retro, rock-and-roll concert VBS — where kids get VIP backstage passes and their Bibles to explore the backstage areas of your church. Think boomboxes, neon, and classic hymns reimagined for a new generation.

But underneath the radical 80s vibe is a deeply serious Bible teaching framework: in a world that’s constantly chasing the next big thing, God and His Word have never changed. Over five days, kids will travel from Creation through the Cross to the Resurrection, learning that the God they’re singing about is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Best for: Churches wanting a high-production, concert-style VBS with 80s retro energy and deep, hands-on Bible teaching about the unchanging nature of God.

5-Day Bible Teaching Breakdown

Each day builds on the last, walking kids through the full arc of the gospel — from Creation to the Cross to the Resurrection. Every lesson is anchored in an attribute of God that never changes, teaching kids that the God they’re singing about is the same God who spoke the world into existence.

  1. Day1

    This Is My Father’s World

    God Is Our Creator

    Read this day free →

“I am the Lord who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.”

    Isaiah 44:24

Kids learn that God created everything — it wasn’t an accident, and He didn’t need any help. Through the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis, children discover that God’s creation has a voice (Psalm 19) and that they were made in His image to praise Him. The lesson establishes that from the very beginning, sin separated us from God — but He is still in control. This is still our Father’s world.

  2. Day2

    Before The Throne of God

    God Is Our King

“I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me.”

    Isaiah 46:9

Kids discover that God has authority over everything and everyone — parents, principals, pastors, and presidents all answer to Him. Through the story of the Israelites in Egypt, the Passover lamb, and the building of the tabernacle, children learn how people approached God’s throne in the Old Testament. The Passover sacrifice of a perfect lamb foreshadows what’s coming on Day 3.

  3. Day3

I Love To Tell The Story

    Jesus Is Our Savior

    Gospel day

“He is able to save those who come to God through him.”

    Hebrews 7:25

This is the Gospel day. Kids learn that Jesus was with God from the very beginning (John 1:2-3), that He lived a sinless life, and that He willingly died on the cross as the final sacrifice. The powerful connection between the Passover hyssop and the hyssop at the Cross brings the Old and New Testaments together. When the temple curtain tore in two, access to God changed forever. Jesus said “It is finished” — and He meant it.

  4. Day4

I’m A Soldier In The Army Of The Lord

    God Is Our Truth

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

    Ephesians 6:10

After the Resurrection, kids learn what it means to stand on God’s side. Through the Armor of God passage in Ephesians 6, they discover that the Bible is the only weapon they need against evil. The lesson uses a live soldier prop with real armor pieces that get removed and put on during the teaching. Kids learn that God’s Word is the Sword of the Spirit — living, active, and sharper than any double-edged sword.

  5. Day5

    The Solid Rock

    God Is Our Rock

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

    Hebrews 13:8

The capstone day. Through the story of Saul-turned-Paul, kids learn that God can change anyone’s heart — but God Himself never changes. Paul endured shipwrecks, prison, and beatings, yet he counted it all joy because God was his Rock. The curriculum’s anchor verse ties everything together: nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God. Fashion, music, and technology change. God never does. That’s why we kick it old school.

Classic hymns, reimagined

Go Fish took classic hymns and reimagined them for a new generation — proving that your grandparents’ music really is cooler than you think. The result is an album that’s fun enough for kids, musically sophisticated enough for parents, and theologically rich enough to last.

Our kids, VBS staff, and all of our volunteers fell in love with it. One young man asked if we’d be using the same music next year — he loved it so much.

“The music doesn’t sound too kiddie for the older kids. We had 5th and 6th grade boys dancing and singing along — that’s how you know it works.”

New kids. Same Gospel.

When we started making music for kids, coming from the pop world, we were amazed that our songs just kept selling. Then it clicked: every six years there’s a whole new group of children. A brand-new audience. So why couldn’t curriculum work the same way?

We poured everything into these programs when we made them. That’s why the songs and videos still stand out. Why shelve all that just to make a new version of the same message?

  • Six programs, six summers

Rotate all six, and by the time one comes back around, there’s a whole new group of kids.

  • All about the Gospel

It’s all about reaching kids with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe a high view of Scripture leads to a high view of God.

Our team is with you every step of the way, and we’re always happy to help. Talk to us or see every way to save.

Questions churches actually ask

Will this still feel fresh years from now?

Timeless by design. We deliberately left out the stuff that expires: no pop-culture references that age out, no gimmicks that feel dated by October. Inside is original Go Fish music, professional video, and Bible teaching that goes deeper than most programs published this year.

Can I really reuse these year after year?

Absolutely. That's the whole point. With 6 programs, you can rotate one per year and go 6 full years before repeating. Most kids will have aged out before they see the same curriculum twice.

Can I use this for more than just VBS?

Yes. Each curriculum was designed to adapt for Sunday school (4–5 week series), midweek programs, after-school clubs, and summer day camp. The daily schedule is built for a 3-hour VBS block, but the modular design means you can spread it across multiple weeks easily.

What age groups do these cover?

All 6 programs are designed for Pre-K through 6th grade. Each includes a separate Preschool Bible Study track with age-appropriate content, plus Elementary content for older kids. The games, crafts, and snacks work across all age groups with easy modifications.

What format are the downloads?

Printable PDF files for all leader guides, planning forms, and promotional materials, plus video files (MP4) for music videos, karaoke videos, and Bible teaching segments. Everything is ready to print or play immediately.

Do I need any special equipment?

Just a way to play videos and music. A laptop and projector, a TV, or even a tablet will work. No proprietary apps, no special hardware, no subscriptions.

How do I share it with my volunteers?

Invite them from your account. Pick what each person leads (Crafts, Games, Bible Study, and so on), enter their email, and they tap a link: their part of every day opens on their phone or tablet, with their printables. No passwords to share, and you can remove anyone anytime. Prefer paper? Everything still prints.

What if I only need one program?

Start with one. Single programs are $99 for a complete digital download. Try it this summer and see what your team and kids think. You can upgrade to a bundle later.

Are you ready to kick it old school?

One download. Everything included. Use it this summer and every summer after.
