Opening & Closing Overview
Each day VBS will begin and end with a time of corporate worship. Our intent is that everyone can share in these times including leaders and preschoolers.
Music is an amazingly effective way to give God praise! We have put more resources into this area of the curriculum than any other in order to make this an incredible time of corporate worship for your children and leaders.
Our hope is that you will trust us in following our recommendations for this most important time. As children are walking in, we recommend having fun, energetic music already playing in the background to set the tone for a great day!
To start the Opening Session:
Start with a greeting, prayer, and announcements by the Gotta Move! VBS Director, pastor, or Gotta Move! Worship Leader. The opening sessions will begin with a 10 second countdown. Make sure to leave house lights on during the announcements and countdown. The Opening Session will have more impact and stand apart as the official start if you save the stage lights for when the music begins. Have the choreography leaders run on to the stage AFTER the ten second countdown. They can run off after the final song is done and before the skit begins.
Each “Opening Session” contains a 10 second countdown, 4 music videos, and a daily greeting by Go Fish.
We have made it so all you have to do is start the day’s Opening Session video and all of the transitions take place seamlessly. There is no need to start each song individually—making for sloppy transitions which ALWAYS causes distractions for your children.
We have taken great care to put the songs in an order that has been proven to be most effective.
After the Go Fish greeting the skit will begin with either live actors or puppets followed by final announcements from the Gotta Move! VBS Director.
You also have the option of playing the individual songs and greetings if you decide you want to do songs other than the ones we selected each day. This is also a great option if you decide that you want your opening and closing times to be longer or shorter. However, utilizing this option is a lot riskier and lends itself to technical and manual errors. We HIGHLY recommend that you stick to our song order as it works perfectly for timing, audience attention span, and transitions.
Please note: the song order is the same for all 5 days. The speaking videos and the skits vary each day. Again, we did this intentionally because children like knowing which songs are coming next and the transitional order worked extremely well for this curriculum. This also makes it possible for VBS to run smoothly by keeping a consistent schedule and allowing children to sing all their favorites each day.
Choreography
We have included choreography for all of the videos. You can find the choreography teaching videos in your video download (a “Choreography teaching video” for each song).
We highly recommend using these to teach a small group of 6-8 children and/or leaders the actions for these songs. It’s very important that your on stage dancers are prepared so that the children can look to them to learn the moves.
This also adds a lot of energy to your worship times. With your lighting, our videos, and dancers on stage it will truly feel like a big event! We have found that utilizing Jr. & Sr. High students for this role works wonderfully. When the younger children see their older peers getting into it, they tend to follow!
Please note: the choreography during the Jump DJ Pray-Z rap section is tricky. We did this intentionally so that children could practice this during the 3D: Double Dutch & Dance rotation of the Gotta Move! curriculum. There is an instructional video that gives step by step instructions for this particular section. Your on stage leaders can learn this beforehand and the children will learn it throughout the week.
Are we directionally challenged? Sometimes! But we intentionally went left on the videos when we say to go right so that what the kids see on screen matches where they’re going. We thought it would be a good idea to clarify that before you send us letters explaining the difference between left and right!
The leaders on stage can leave as soon as the daily greeting or wrap up videos start. If you have the capabilities, we’d suggest turning the stage lights on when they’re actively involved and off when the focus should be on the videos only.
Any time when there are no choreographed moves, these on stage leaders can sing along, clap, and encourage children to stay actively involved in the music time. Having the right children and/or leaders on stage can really add a lot to the opening and closing worship experience. Make sure everyone is smiling and having fun up there!
The Fruit Of The Spirit Song
Included in your curriculum download are nine fruit of the Spirit posters just like the ones in the video. We recommend choosing nine children each day to hold one of the posters. You may want to mount these on foam boards to make them more durable.
Have the children stand in a line and when they hear their “fruit” in the song (during the cheerleader section) they can hold their poster high above their head. This is a fun way to get more children on stage during your Opening Sessions.
The Skits
The Gotta Move! skits feature 5 characters who will be a part of your Opening Sessions every day during the Gotta Move! VBS experience.
- Guy Spaghetti: The host of the cooking show Extreme Cuisine
- Giana Delicious: Guy’s temporary co-host
- Bobby Mays: Guy’s regular co-host
- Pie Boss: A guest on Extreme Cuisine
- Iron Chef Donut: A guest on Extreme Cuisine
Throughout the 5 days, Giana, Bobby, Pie Boss, and Iron Chef Donut will assist Guy in making the totally extreme Fruit of the Spirit Salad! Your children will love these characters and the storyline as it unfolds throughout the week.
If you’d like, you can really embellish the cooking show/kitchen set. Add your own giant versions of the fruit of the Spirit posters along with lots of kitchen utensils, fake appliances made with cardboard, and a giant “Extreme Cuisine” logo.

ANNOUNCERAnd now, it’s time for America’s most extreme cooking show, Extreme Cuisine, with your host, Guy Spaghetti!!
Guy runs on stage
GUYHey, I’m Guy Spaghetti, and I’m taking food to the extreme! Before we get started today, I imagine some of you are wondering about my regular co-host, Bobby Mays. As you may remember from our last episode, Bobby had a little incident when we were making my award winning “Blow Your Eyebrows Off Chili.” I’m happy to say that after ten hours, doctors were able to re-attach Bobby’s eyebrows, and he’s on his way to recovery now. But until he gets back I’m going to be joined by another lovely and talented cook, Giana Delicious!
Giana enters, waves to the crowd.
GUYGiana, are you ready to get extreme?
GIANAYes! Well, maybe. How extreme are we talking?
GUYGiana, we’re going to make one of the most extreme dishes you’ll ever taste.
GIANAWe’re not going to make the chili are we? The one that blows your eyebrows off?
GUYAre you kidding? This recipe is so radical, so extreme, it makes that chili look like chocolate pudding.
GIANAGuy, I really like my eyebrows, and I’d look really funny without them.
GUYRelax, Giana. We’re not making chili.
GIANAWe’re not?
GUYWe’re going to make something a thousand times more extreme.
Giana covers her eyebrows.
GIANANo!
GUYFruit salad!
GIANAFruit salad?
GUYThat’s right! This week, we’re going to make the most extreme fruit salad you ever tasted!
GIANAWhat makes it so extreme?
GUYThe ingredients, of course. This is no ordinary fruit salad, Giana.
GIANAOh no. You’re gonna put kiwi in it, aren’t you?
GUYNo, no kiwi.
GIANAStar fruit?
GUYNo.
GIANAKumquat?
GUYNo.
GIANAUgli fruit?
GUYNo.
GIANABlueberry, cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, snozzberry?
GUYNo, no, no, no, and there’s no such thing.
GIANAThen what ARE you putting in it?
GUYGiana, we’re going to get the nine most intense, most extreme flavors in the world to form the Fruit of the Spirit Salad!
GIANAFruit of the Spirit?
GUYYes!
GIANAOh no! You’re not gonna have ghosts in it, are you?
GUYNo, not that kind of spirit. I mean the Holy Spirit! The one that comes from God.
GIANAThat doesn’t sound so bad.
GUYGiana, it’s gonna blow your socks off.
GIANANot the socks! I love my socks!
GUYWhat did you say?
GIANAI love my socks!
GUYWhy, Giana, you just gave us the first ingredient!
GIANAMy socks?
GUYNo, not your socks.
GIANABecause you can’t have my socks!
GUYWhy not?
GIANABecause they stink for one thing.
GUYAnd?
GIANAAnd what?
GUYWhat did you say about your socks before that?
GIANAI love them?
GUYLove! That’s the first ingredient in our fruit salad!
GIANAWow! Love? Really? Love?
GUYThis recipe’s as old as the New Testament, written down by Chef Paul himself.
GIANANow you’re just being silly.
GUYLove is the first ingredient. And you, Giana, you gave it to us!
GIANAOh, I’m so excited! That fills me with so much... joy!
GUYWhat was that? Did you say joy?
GIANAYes!
GUYBecause that’s the second ingredient!
GIANAGet out!
GUYLove and joy, the first two ingredients in our Fruit of the Spirit Salad.
GIANALove, and joy? This is extreme!
GUYAnd it’ll only get more extreme as we go. So join us tomorrow as Giana and I continue putting together the most extreme Fruit Salad you’ll ever taste!
GIANAWe’re not going to finish it today?
GUYSorry, Giana, but a Fruit Salad like this isn’t made in a day.
GIANAWhy not?
GUYWhen you come back tomorrow, you’ll find out.
GIANAOh, all right.
GUYI’m Guy Spaghetti, she’s Giana Delicious, and we’re taking cuisine to the extreme!

Included when you buyDay 1 Bible Study teaching videoBible Lesson
Did it surprise you to hear in the video that God can see your heart?
What do you think that means?
Remember in Genesis, God saw the people’s hearts and knew that their thoughts and actions were evil ALL the time. Their lives were full of sin and God could not be near them. Since God is without sin, He is the only One who can judge sin. Let’s see how severe God’s judgment was for those who were choosing to walk their own way. Open your Bibles to Genesis chapter 6, verse 7.
If working with older children, choose a volunteer to read the verse. If working with younger children, you will probably want to read the verse and have them follow along. Make sure to read directly from the Bible.
So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
God was going to destroy everything because sin had touched everything. God could not be near anything He had made! Since God created us and everything around us, we need to treat the world as though it’s God’s, not ours.
God saw that what He had made went from very good to very bad. Everything except one man. Out of all the people that were living on the earth at the time of Genesis, there was only one man who made God happy. Do you know who it was? Let’s read verse 8 and find out.
Choose a volunteer to read verse 8 and 9
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
These verses say Noah was righteous and blameless in his generation. Righteous means right in God’s sight. Now, that doesn’t mean Noah never did anything wrong. Everyone makes mistakes and is a sinner.
How could Noah walk with God and be close to Him if he still sinned?
How could God call him righteous?
We can find the answer in verse 8 so look at that verse again and put your finger on the one word you think might explain why God called Noah blameless.
Allow children to guess which word it might be
The answer is favor. Favor means grace. There is nothing we can do to earn grace. It is completely undeserved. Noah still sinned so he deserved to be in the same category with the others, however God saw him as righteous. It was through God’s grace that Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. It wasn’t anything Noah did on his own, it was the way God saw him.
God could see Noah’s heart and knew that Noah’s love for Him was sincere. It was ONLY when God looked at him with grace or favor, that He saw Noah as righteous, and allowed Noah to walk with Him. God chose Noah and He is the One who invites you and me to walk with Him.
Do you think Noah still had to obey God, even though God gave him grace?
Since Noah was close to God and was obeying Him, God told Noah what was going to happen. Remember, God saw His world and that what He created went from very good to very bad. Sin was everywhere and God couldn’t be close to anything He had made. So God told Noah that He was going to send a flood to make everything new and wash the sin away. It was going to rain so much that the only way for Noah and his family to be safe was to build a huge boat called an ark.
God gave Noah very specific instructions on how to build it. It was to be so big that two of every animal, along with every kind of food would fit inside. Let’s read the last verse of this chapter to see if he obeyed God.
Read Genesis 6:22-7:1 ESV
Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.”
Noah didn’t hesitate and did exactly as the Lord commanded. He had faith in God and trusted Him with his life. Even though God saw him as righteous, he still had to obey God. Let’s read what happened next.
Read Genesis 7:17-23 ESV. If running short on time, you may want to read the verses and have the children follow along.
The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.
God provided everything Noah and his family needed to be saved from the flood, but Noah still needed to obey. Think about how long it must have taken Noah to build that big boat. Think about how many times Noah must have been tempted to not work on the ark, and do what everyone else was doing.
Are YOU ever tempted to do what everyone else is doing instead of obeying God?
Even though it can be extremely difficult to obey God and His commands, He always blesses those that do. Noah listened to God, He trusted Him completely, and did exactly what the Lord told him to do. Because Noah obeyed, God saved Noah and his entire family from the flood.
End in prayer

Crafts
Each lesson of the Gotta Move! curriculum focuses on how God provides everything we need to walk with Him. Each day, children will create a craft that reinforces these lessons.
We encourage you to keep the craft time God-centered by discussing the Scripture passages and focus verse included in your daily craft instructions.
We have provided craft options that vary in difficulty, expense, and prep time. As is usually the case with any curriculum, we realize you and your leaders may come up with additional ideas or variations of our crafts.

Opening
Today we are learning about Noah and how he walked with God. This week we are learning that God gives us everything we need to walk with Him too.
I want everyone to open up their Bibles to Galatians 5:25 and let’s read it out loud together.
Give children time to look up the verse in their Bibles.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Today we are going to decorate our own shoelaces. They have Galatians 5:25 on it as well as a reminder that we’ve Gotta Move! Along with that, we will be making friendship pins. When you look down at your shoes, I hope that our craft today will remind you that when you follow God, you are not walking alone!
Gotta Move! Shoelaces
Instructions
- Hand out 1 pair of shoelaces to each child.
- Let them decorate shoelaces with markers.
- Have them write “Galatians 5:25” or “Gotta Move!” on them.
Gotta Move! Friendship Pins
Instructions
- Hand out 2-4 small safety pins and 1 medium safety pin to each child.
- Have bins with small beads of various colors placed on each work station.
- Thread beads onto the arms of the four small safety pins.
- After the beads are on then close the pins.
- Slide the beaded pins onto the medium-sized safety pin, with the beaded pins hanging by the safety-pin head.
- Children can pin their friendship pin on to their shoelaces or Gotta Move! lanyard.
If time allows, assemble children into groups of 4-5 and play the Gotta Move! Scripture Game below using Genesis 6:9.
Scripture Game
Equipment Needed
Object of the game
To eliminate each player and be the last one standing. Also, a great feature of this particular game is that players will learn Scripture as they play!
How to play (rules)
- 1Have the players stand in a circle with their Bibles.
- 2For this game to work, the players will all need to have the same version of the Bible.
- 3Another option is for you to print out cards for each verse and hand them out to the children. This is more work but it makes things easier when you play the game.
- 4The leader will give the children a verse to look up.
- 5Pick one player to start and that player will say the Scripture reference (i.e. Psalm 1:1). The reference will count as one word. Then the children each take turns saying one word of the verse at a time as they go around the circle. (Using Psalm 1:1 as an example, the first player would say “Blessed”, then the next player would say “is”, etc.) When they get to the end of the verse the player who says the last word will look to the next player and say “Let me see you move!”. That player then needs to do their best dance move and sit down.
- 6The process starts over with the next player using the same Bible verse until the game is over.
- 7This continues until there is only one player left.
- 8If time allows, you can play again with a new Bible verse.

His Grace, Our Obedience
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”
Today’s big idea: Obeying God means walking with Him every single day — even when it’s hard.
Two snacks, one goal — pick the path that fits your crew.
Option 1 · Simple: Two-by-Two Trail Mix
Say this as you serve
“Noah obeyed God and walked right alongside Him — grab your mix two-by-two, just like the animals marched onto the ark!”
Ingredients
Instructions
Set each ingredient in its own bowl with a scoop. Have kids add “two scoops, two-by-two” of each into a cup or bag, give it a shake, and they’ve got a snack to eat on the move. As they scoop, name the animals marching onto the ark.
Option 2 · Creative: Noah’s Ark Banana Boats
Say this as you serve
“Loading that ark didn’t make sense yet — but Noah obeyed first and trusted God with the rest.”
Ingredients
Instructions
Lay a banana half flat as the boat’s hull. Dab a line of “glue” along the top and stand animal crackers in pairs down the deck. Add a pretzel mast with a fruit-leather sail. Ask what God told Noah to do that didn’t make sense yet — obedience often comes before understanding.

3D: Double Dutch and Dance
Throughout the Gotta Move! music videos, we have included some great jump roping footage to remind kids of Galatians 5:25 where we are told to “keep in step” with the Spirit. Double Dutch jumping has been around for a long time, yet continues to be a favorite activity for children everywhere. It’s not only fun, but it’s great exercise too! Double Dutch is a great way to reinforce the idea that we Gotta Move!
No matter how fun your games are, let’s face it, there are lots of children who just don’t want to get involved. That is why we give children the option of either participating in the Double Dutch option or the Dance Option. They’re both a lot of fun and children may choose to do different activities each day.
If you’re doing a backyard or inner city VBS, Double Dutch is a great way to attract children to your event! While filming these videos, we were amazed at how simply jumping rope at a park attracted so many children. This experience is what led us to focus on this activity for the Gotta Move! curriculum.
*In your Gotta Move! video download you’ll find the following videos to assist you in both areas:*
- Double Dutch jump roping instructional video
- “Jump” dance break, step-by-step instructional video
- 6 - Gotta Move! karaoke style videos (no lead vocal)
- 6 - Gotta Move! choreography teaching videos
We are giving you a lot of options, so feel free to modify and pick whatever activities you like.
Double Dutch: Items Needed
Included when you buyDouble Dutch instructional videoDouble Dutch Tips
- Having good “turners” on each end of the ropes is the key to successful Double Dutch jumping. We highly recommend having leaders do the turning.
- Many children have never done this before and might be nervous. However, it’s not nearly as hard as it looks. Make sure your leaders are good encouragers!
- To get started, have the turners begin swinging the ropes. Have the jumper stand next to a turner. When the rope closest to them is at its highest point, that’s when they should jump in.
- Alternating feet with each jump is easier than jumping with both feet each time.
The great thing about Double Dutch is that it takes practice and the more you do it, the more tricks you can add. Here are some tricks you can challenge your children with as their jumping progresses throughout VBS.
- Turn around in circles while you jump
- See how fast you can jump
- Have the children stand in a single file line and then take turns going in and out of the ropes without ever stopping the ropes
The possibilities are endless which is why your children will love doing this activity every day! However, we have included some game ideas below for some organized jumping.
We also recommend having several hula hoops laying around so that if kids are waiting for their turn to jump they can still be moving!
Everything is more fun with music! Grab your favorite Go Fish music and crank it up while the kids are jumpin’!
Jump Rope Game: High & Low
Optional jump rope game. Great for preschool and younger grades.
Items Needed: Several long jump ropes
How to Play: Invite two children to grab each end of a long jump rope, holding it so the middle lies on the ground. Ask the children to form a line and take turns jumping over the rope. After the last child has had a turn, the rope is raised a little bit higher. Ask the children to continue raising the rope little by little after each round. Encourage them to think of ways to get over the rope without touching it. When the rope gets too high for the children to safely jump over, invite them to bend underneath it, limbo-style. How low can you go?
Jump Rope Game: Don’t Step On The Worm
Optional jump rope game. Great for preschool and younger grades.
Items Needed: A long jump rope
How to Play: Invite two children to crouch down and grab the ends of a long jump rope keeping the rope on the ground. Ask the rest of the children to form a line and take turns jumping over the wiggling rope without stepping on it. If a child steps on the rope, they will take a turn wiggling the end of it. This game can be played indoors with music as well.
Jump Rope Game: Jump Rope Relay
Optional jump rope game.
Items Needed: 2 jump ropes
How to Play: Form two even teams and have them each form a single file line. When the word “GO!” is shouted out the first players in line jump rope while running to the end of the playing area and back. When one teammate returns to the starting line, the next player goes. The first team to finish wins.
Jump Rope Game: Twice The Fun
Optional jump rope game.
Items Needed: 1 long jump rope
How to Play: See if two children can use teamwork to “keep in step”! This is exactly like jumping rope on your own except two people squeeze in the middle. The child on the right holds the rope with her right hand and the child on the left holds the other end with his left hand. It’s trickier than jumping on your own, but it’s also twice as fun!
Dance: Items Needed
There are 3 main activity options included in this area.
Dance Option 1: Learn the “Jump” Dance
*Learn the dance that happens during the rap section of the Gotta Move! song “JUMP”!*
- Let children watch and rehearse with the step-by-step instructional video
- The video walks the children through the moves
- The video ends with children rehearsing the dance
- Once they have it down, they’ll love trying it out during the Gotta Move! closing session!
The step-by-step video is the download “Choreography teaching video: Jump (feat. DJ Pray-Z).”
Dance Option 2: Learn the Motions for All 6 Songs
*Learn and practice all the motions for the 6 Gotta Move! songs*
- Let the children learn the moves by watching the choreography teaching videos in your video download (a “Choreography teaching video” for each song)
- Each video contains the motions only and all other footage has been edited out to make focusing on the moves nice and easy
Dance Option 3: Karaoke
*Sing karaoke using all 6 Gotta Move! songs*
- Let children individually or in groups choose their favorite song from Gotta Move! and sing away
- All songs from the Gotta Move! curriculum are included in your video download as karaoke videos
Play the Karaoke Videos
Video overview: All the lead vocals have been removed so the children will hear themselves loud and clear.
In your video download.
If the songs sound better without our vocals, please don’t tell us. That would hurt our feelings!
3D: Double Dutch & Dance Leader
You’ll be great at this if you:
- Love to play games
- Love God and children.
- Are positive and have lots of energy.
- Can encourage and motivate children to do their best and try new things.
You will:
- Collect any materials needed, run double dutch, karaoke, and dance instructional videos.
- Set up your games area as well as the karaoke and dance areas.
- Explain and coordinate each activity (Double Dutch, karaoke, dance instructional videos).
- Lead all Gotta Move! 3D: Double Dutch and Dance sessions each day.

His Grace, Our Obedience
“These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”
Preschool lessons are created assuming that the preschool children will attend the opening and closing sessions along with the elementary age children.
Aim
The children will hear the story of Noah and know the importance of obeying God and their parents
Principle
God created us to walk with Him - to be near Him, not because He was lonely or because He needed anything, but because God knows the safest and best place for us to be is close to Him! We are only able to be close to God through His grace or favor.
Free Play
Free play with your preschool children until your group has all arrived and is ready to go to the opening session along with the elementary aged children. We suggest designating an area specifically for free play with toys set out in advance.
Opening Activity
Water Station (this can also be done outside)
Supplies Needed:
Allow children to play with the boats, animals, and people in the water. Lay towels underneath the tables to prevent the floor from getting wet if your tables are inside.
Suggested questions to ask while they are playing:
Have you been on a boat before?
Do you know who made every river, lake, and ocean?
Our Bible story today is about a man that built a HUGE boat. A boat that could fit all kinds of animals inside.
Can you imagine being on a boat with a giraffe?
How about an elephant or a hippopotamus?

Have your Bible opened on your lap to Genesis 6 so the children see that this is a true story from God’s Word.
Raise your hand if you have a favorite toy or stuffed animal at home. When a toy is our favorite, we look at it differently than all the others, don’t we? It is very special to us. You would probably be really sad if you lost it or something happened to it.
God feels the same way about us! We are very special to God. The Bible says God made us and everything around us. The sky, the water, the plants, the animals, everything in the heavens and on the earth. Out of everything that God made, we are His favorite. We were made in His image. We were made to be close to God, to love Him and obey Him. God created us to be near to Him, not because He was lonely or because He needed anything, but because God knows the safest and best place for us is to be close to Him.
Our Bible story today is about a man named Noah. He was very close to God. His story is a true story from the Bible and it’s found in the very first book in the Bible, Genesis.
Make sure to show them where in the Bible it is found
Noah lived a very long time ago. He lived at a time when many people were making God sad. Everyone was doing wrong ALL the time. The people around Noah were only thinking about evil and not thinking about anything good. God was very sad about this and the Bible says His heart was filled with pain.
There was one man who didn’t make God sad. That man was Noah! The Bible says Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. It’s kind of like how you look at your favorite toy with favor.
God looked at Noah with favor because he was the only one that was choosing to listen and obey. Favor means grace. Noah didn’t do everything right, he still sinned. He didn’t deserve God’s favor, or grace, but God saw Noah’s heart and knew that he loved God. God can see our hearts too!
God knows if we love Him. If we love God, we should want to obey Him. When we obey God, it makes Him very happy. He wants us to listen to our parents, to tell the truth, to be kind and to love each other. When you obey your mom or dad today, you are showing God that you love Him.
Since Noah was close to God and was obeying Him, God told Noah what was going to happen. God was going to send rain to wash all the evil and sin away.
It was going to rain so much that the only way for Noah and his family to be safe was to build a huge boat. God wanted Noah to build a boat so big that he could fit two of every animal and every kind of food inside of it! God promised that if he would build the boat, his family would be saved.
Do you think Noah listened to God and obeyed?
Answer: Yes!
Noah built the big boat, called an ark, and he put everything on the boat that God said to. God sent the rain (adults can sprinkle or lightly spray the water on the children at this time) and it rained and rained and rained! Everything was washed away except for the people, the animals, and the food that were on the boat.
Snack Time Idea: Rainbow Donuts
Did God keep his promise to Noah and save his family? He sure did! God always keeps His promises. After the rain had stopped and Noah and his family were able to get off the boat, God knew they would probably be afraid every time it rained. They would probably wonder if the rain would wash everything away again. God made another promise to Noah, and to us, that He would never again send enough water to wash away everything on the earth. God even gave Noah a sign, the rainbow, to remind him and us of His promise. Our snack today is a rainbow. When you see a rainbow in the sky after it rains, remember God’s promise to us!
Supplies Needed:
Snack Directions:
- Have the children hold their donut while a volunteer squirts two “clouds” on their plate with the whipped cream.
- Children can place the rainbow on top of the clouds before they eat it.
Bible Memory
Memory Verses: Psalm 1:1-3 ESV
This week preschoolers will be working together to memorize Psalm 1:1-3.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Bible Memory Actions:
- Blessed is the man (two fingers walking on hand)
- who walks not in the counsel of the wicked (walk while shaking head no)
- nor stands in the way of sinners (stand with feet together, arms straight down at sides)
- nor sits in the seat of scoffers (use pointer finger to point from one side of the room to the next)
- but his delight is in the law of the Lord (use pointer fingers to form smile, then put hands together to form a Bible)
- and on his law he meditates day and night. (arms crossed out in front, one arm goes up for day, then back down for night)
- He is like a tree (see ASL sign for tree)
- planted by streams of water (fingers make a ‘W’ by mouth - ASL sign)
- that yields its fruit in its season, (pretend to eat)
- and its leaf does not wither. (see ASL sign for leaf)
- In all that he does, he prospers. (spread arms out, then fists up)
Blessed means happy. God knows that we will be the happiest when we are obeying Him. His way is the best because God knows everything!
Transitional Walk
While children are on their walk, volunteers can help set up the stations.
I want you to think about when you go on a walk with your mom or dad, or grandparents. Do they want you to stay close to them or do they say you can go anywhere you want?
They probably want you to stay close by! They love you and they don’t want you to get lost. God loves us too and He doesn’t want us to be far away from Him either. God knows even more than our mom and dad. There is no one who is smarter, or stronger or more powerful than God!
Optional: Have the children look for different kinds of birds and leaves on their walk. Talk about how God used birds and leaves to show Noah when it was time to get off the boat. See Genesis 8:6-12
Suggested Station Activities
Set up as many of these stations as you desire. Plan for the children to go through them in groups of 3-5 children along with one adult leader or youth helper for each station. Children should stay at each station for about 10 minutes. It often works well to set a timer for the entire class, and have the groups rotate all at the same time. You might also want to explain each station to the whole group prior to starting the rotations.
Station 1: Animal Count
Supplies Needed:
Directions:
Place one baking cup in each tin. Turn the muffin tin horizontally and use a marker to write numbers 1-6 (or 1-12) in order on the circles in the tins. Children can fill the tin with the correct number of crackers while practicing their counting skills. (i.e. one animal cracker goes in the tin marked with a number one, 2 crackers for the one marked with a number two, etc)
Idea for discussion:
Noah didn’t have to worry about counting the animals to make sure he had all the different kinds on the ark. God brought the animals right to Noah. He even decided when it was time to shut the door so Noah didn’t have to. No one is smarter or more powerful than God. He takes care of everything!
Station 2: Shoelace Cards
Supplies needed:
Print the “Preschool template: Shoelace Cards” from your curriculum download.
Directions:
This is a simple project in which preschoolers can practice their fine motor skills over and over again! Copy the shoe template onto colored card stock and laminate if possible. Cut and punch holes where needed. Tie a knot at the end of the yarn or shoelace and lace through the first hole. You might want to make an extra one for this station to model the lacing for the preschoolers. If your budget allows, send one home with each child along with the Go Fish Gotta Move! shoelaces.
Idea for Discussion:
Noah was very close to God and loved Him very much. The Bible says he walked with God. Our shoes and laces remind us how important it is to show God we love him by obeying Him. He wants to be close to us and walk with us wherever we go.
Station 3: Story Time
Supplies needed:
Directions:
- Children love to re-enact a story they have heard. Have the children use the chairs and stuffed animals from the Bible story time to re-enact the story of Noah.
- The leader supervising this station shouldn’t be shy about jumping right in and using their imagination!
- See how many details the children can remember.
Idea for Discussion:
Do you think the animals had their own special spot on the ark?
Which animal do you think was the loudest? Or the smelliest?
Station 4: Coloring Sheet
Supplies needed:
Print the “Coloring sheet: Noah” from your curriculum download.
Idea for discussion:
What are some ways that you can show your mom and dad that you love them? When we listen to our mom and dad, it makes them happy and God happy. It’s one way we can show God we love Him! God gave us our parents, grandparents, and teachers to help take care of us and He wants us to obey them.
Game Idea: Animal Freeze Dance
Supplies needed:
Directions:
- Call out a type of animal.
- Have children act it out until the music stops.
- When the music stops, they should freeze in their animal stance until a new animal is called out and the music starts to play again.
